History of the Project
GigaBeam Networks is working diligently with our partners to bring broadband access to unserved areas in both Logan and Mingo Counties.
Appalachian Power chose the counties to be a the first utility leverage pilot project for West Virginia. GigaBeam was selected after a procurement process to be the ISP for this project.
Soon after GigaBeam, in coordination with our partners, began the process of funding for the project. NTIA approved the grant application in early 2022. The project is fiber to the premise for unserved/underserved locations throughout both counties.
GigaBeam, in partnership with Appalachian Power, will build hundreds of miles of fiber optic cable to offer gigabit+ level service throughout the project area. The project is currently in the engineering phase. Initial construction started in July 2022.
The timeline below shows our prelimary plan for the project. Being early in the project, times and details will change so check back often for updates!
The project will bring broadband access to the unserved areas of both Mingo and Logan counties. The maps below shows the proposed/preliminary fiber paths. As engineering completes, a more defined fiber path will be developed.
